They just keep coming. Faster and faster the older I get. Hopefully that works in my favor and it will be spring soon.
We brought in the new year with our friends Joe and Julie and lots of food. So fun to have this annual tradition. We stayed quite late this year so it was nice to have the next day off with nothing planned so we could sleep in.
Started getting back into a routine after that. Did the last 2 Thursday night classes. One with Narc that was a mess since I was using a tug and he gets too high. So the next one I ran Seven to prepare him for the upcoming CPE trial and get some weave practice in. Barn training on Friday nights. The girls agility class on Tuesdays. Weekly TV shows are starting to come back too.
The first weekend in January was an AKC agility trial at TCOTC. I just had the girls entered. Letty’s first run she was concerned and she popped her weave poles. I just ignored it and we went on. She hasn’t done agility there in almost a year. Her next runs were really nice. Just a little bobble in each run to keep her from Qing. I think this was her first trial in both Excellent classes. Vada had some oh so close runs too and finally Qd in Standard on Sunday. So she’s qualified for the Invitational now. I was very happy with how well the girls ran. And we were done early enough on Saturday that we could make it to church.
The next weekend was the CPE trial at OTR that I am secretary for. Wow, there were alot of pulls and spots filled off the waiting list right before the trial. It all went smoothly for the trial but it was a lot of work for me. It was a 3 day trial with 2 runs on Friday. I worked the morning and then went to the trial. All 4 dogs ran and all ran well. Vada was up to finish her C-ATCH2 (already) with a Jumpers Q and we had 2 opportunities. We had 2 bars halfway thru our run on Friday and I just kind of quit on her. But we got it Saturday morning with a perfect run! She picked up a few other Qs. Letty went 9/10 (NQ was on me as I had just run Vada’s CATCH2 run and was not with it). She moved up to Level C in Jumpers and she finished her CL4-R. Narc Qd in about half of his runs. He picked up 2 L4 Standard Qs! He’s in Level 5 in a few classes now too. I’m probably getting ahead of myself but it would be amazing to put a CATCH on him. I would have have thought it possible. But I am learning to listen to my dogs and he says he needs info VERY early or he will go off course. Seven ran well except for popping the weave poles. I was ready to give up on him and he NAILED the 6 weave poles at the end of his Snooker run – last run of the weekend. He’s so mean to me and keeps the torture going. Saturday night we had a judge’s dinner at the school and Karl joined it. It was fun. I enjoy those times to just hang out and chat with nothing to have to do.
Did my last CPE draw – for the February trial last week. My last OTR trial for the season that I am secretary for. Having the summer off is a nice break. I do enjoy it though.
We had weather in the high 20s one night so I took the girls to an empty parking lot to train in the snow. It was nice to get out and have room to move.
Last weekend I had the girls entered both days in an AKC trial at OTR. Once again too many oh so close runs. Letty was having weaving issues all weekend. She burned her pads earlier in the week so maybe that was part of it? Seems more like confidence but she trains there for goodness sake! The courses are Saturday were very flowing. Jumpers just had 2 turning spots. The weaves were coming out of the tunnel and Letty went thru the first 2 poles and then quit weaving so we went on. Vada dropped the 2nd bar. Frustrating. I can not recall the Standard course. Sunday’s JWW course was much harder and I stressed about it. But we ran it very well! Letty popped the weaves again but it was like she just missed the last pole – not that she quit. The crowed was bummed and it deflated her a bit but we went on and finished well. Vada only had 1 bar down on a tough RC. And since it was in the middle of the course I was able to practice distance on my weaves and got lateral to get a FC in after the next jump and before the triple. In Standard Letty dropped the bar on the 5th obstacle and got down about it. The weaves were a straight line after the teeter and she entered them and then start skipping poles. I brought her back and tried again and she would not weave. I did kind of quit on her in the run after she dropped the bar but tried to get it back after the table so we could get good weaves. So ready to cry. But then I ran Vada and it was an amazing run and all the bars stayed up and she Qd! She keeps saving my weekends from being complete failures.
Seven ran on Sunday too since it was his 11th birthday. I knew he would not weave and tried to make it a happy day for his birthday but all this failure is getting to me. He ran really well til we got to the weaves and then refused to even go near them. I tried a few times. Then we were super handler focused and I tried to RC the triple which I wasn’t going to do originally and he crashed it. So I decided it was silly to waste any more money on him doing AKC agility since it seems like his weaves will never be fixed. We still had Standard left and it was his last AKC run so I planned for just fun. We had fun. I didn’t decel soon enough on the table and he popped off it so a table fault. But then at the end he weaved all 12 poles beautifully! It was so amazing! Then he did the triple and cleared it but something happened after that and he ran to the side of the ring and sat with his paw up. Everyone “aww’d” and I picked him up and he cried a little. He walked it off and he’s been fine since then. He must have just landed funny? So now I don’t know what to do for upcoming trials. I think he is entered for 1 day in 2 upcoming AKC trials at OTR. I did pull him from Standard in the upcoming CPE trial.
It was really nice out on Sunday (42 degrees!) so we went to the park and went on a 2 hour hike. The exercise and fresh air were much needed for all of us!
Saturday I was done early enough so we went to church to check out the new campus in Coon Rapids. Karl made a pot roast too so we had that for dinner. Yum!
Yesterday I had the day off for the holiday so I got to sleep in and try to get caught up on dog club paperwork stuff. I got a bit done but still tons to do. I started obedience classes again at TCOTC. Haven’t been in class there since last winter. Letty did so well. The class is below her skills but I wasn’t sure how she would do in that environment so I wanted it that way. And it’s the only class before Vada’s that would work. Vada’s class is all over the place with skill sets. But Jane manages us all well. I mostly work on Vada’s utility exercises. She remembered everything and was further along than I remembered.
Tomorrow Vada sees Dr Heather. I think she’s been due for an adjustment for a few weeks now. Hopefully her jumping gets better.
